The 'NoVa Search and Social Media Marketing' Linkedin group is also now on FaceBook

Since creating a new Facebook Fan Page for the 'NoVa Search and Social Media Marketing' group started in Linkedin.com, I've had the chance to play with the features and I write briefly about most of the features below.

To become a Fan of the NoVa Search and Social Media Marketing group on Facebook, just do a search for “NoVa Search and Social Media” and become a fan.

Main benefits of Facebook Fan pages
The Communities page of Facebook public profiles allows you to create a connection with other like-minded people. That’s why I thought it would be worthwhile to extend the reach of the Northern Virginia SEM group to Facebook because of the additional features like event announcements that will benefit the group.

1. Connect
You can connect and grow a strong relationship with people who care about your organization, group or association. You can raise awareness by posting Notes and updates, use Causes and Events to bring people together, and stay connected and updated with commenting and Wall posts, and Discussion Boards. I’ll be making announcements regarding the NoVa Search and Social Media Marketing group on the Facebook fan page.

2. Content
The Content section gives the NoVa Search and Social Media Marketing group the opportunity to organize events, share videos and photos, or discuss the latest issues relevant to our community in a closed and safe environment.

3. Distribution
You can communicate both broadly and with targeted updates to prospective members and existing members through News Feed and Updates. It’s easy to spread the word to others outside of your organization about upcoming events, important announcements or fundraising efforts.

Tips & Tricks

Publisher & Wall
By using the Publisher on the Wall tab, you can update the Status of your community or group with calls to action, news or upcoming events. Create videos and photo albums, post Notes or post Links to content your group might enjoy.

Favorite Pages
Use Favorite Pages to highlight any other public profiles on Facebook you are affiliated with, other communities you support or just other organizations you respect or care about.

Share, Like and Commenting
Remind the people connected to you to participate on your public profile. The more people share, like or comment on your content the wider distribution you will receive through News Feed. Be sure to post engaging, relevant content at a pace that is steady without being overwhelming to the people connected to you.

Targeted Updates
In addition to News Feed distribution, it’s possible to send targeted updates to supporters and followers about upcoming events, important announcements or fundraising efforts within specific geographical areas.

Useful Facebook Applications
Click on the name of each application to add an application or for more information. Each of these applications can be added as a box to your Wall or Boxes tab. Many can also be added as stand-alone tabs.

Blogging & Feedback
Notes
Facebook Notes lets you share current activities, thoughts and more with people you are connected to through blog entries. They can comment on your Notes and you can add images and links to any entry. With RSS feeds, you can use the RSS feed to automatically import your blog posts to your public profile.

Discussion Boards
Discussion Boards are good to begin a conversation among supporters and get feedback on a particular topic. You can start discussions about any topic.

Media
Photos
Facebook Photos allows you to upload an unlimited number of albums to your public profile (share shots from your latest event, of the people important to your organization, or other things you want to share.

Video
Upload video files and record video messages straight to your supporters from your public profile.

Links
Share your favorite content on the Internet by posting it on your public profile. You can post websites, blogs, videos, and songs, and other content on Facebook like photos, notes, groups, and events.

To become a Fan of the NoVa Search and Social Media Marketing group on Facebook, just do a search for “NoVa Search and Social Media” and become a fan.
